How to book your New York City Met Museum Engagement session

Getting married and an art lover?
This quick how to guide will explain how to plan your engagement session at the New York Metropolitan Museum of ARt.

Looking to an add that artistic touch to your engagement photos? The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City is the perfect location to achieve just that! It is seriously by far my favorite place to date and I cant wait to capture more couples here but first let put you on game real quick:

First off, the entire museum is YOUR studio! Like,, look around you! There are TONS of photo opportunities, plenty of backdrops and lots of space to execute that pinterest mood board that I’m sure you have saved with your photographer.

Next, lets talk about cost, other than what you invested for your photographer, the museum entrance is $30 USD BUT there is a tiny loophole; if your photographer lives in New York State you can pay what you want based on a donation made to the museum. If you none of you are from NYS then be prepared to pay $30 USD per person but honestly, its worth it because you get to spend all the time you want running around the museum without feeling rushed (with the exception of the time you booked your photographer for, I’d recommend 3-4hr session so you can take your time because you can lose track of time very quickly in the museum).

Pro: There are no additional fees or permits required to plan your session.
Con: No flash photography is allowed so let your photographer know and they’ll know how to properly adjust to execute for the best images.

Before the day of your session, do a little research and check out online where you want to create so you have a plan and don’t lose time during your session! The museum is HUUUUGGGEEE and there are so many locations to see and admire but for the best backdrops and lighting I’d suggest visiting the American Wing, European Sculpture & Decorative Arts, Modern & Contemporary Art, and the Greek & Roman Art Wing. Those are just a good starting point so be sure to let your photographer know in case they want to do research of their own!

The best times to visit the museum are during the morning hours M-F but be mindful when planning because they close at 5pm and are closed on Wednesdays so plan accordingly! You can always plan for a Saturday morning once the museum opens @ 10am, which it was I did with my couple (gallery below) and we had an amazing time together!

Once the logistics are all figured out, it’s time to strike a pose! Get loose, have some fun, twirl around (be careful!) and embrace your surroundings! You are surrounded by hundreds of years of art and culture so take a quick moment to embrace that during your session, you might learn a thing or two! Whether you want those intimate shots by the gorgeous galleries or some quick poses by the iconic entrance steps, there are no short of locations within the location to capture these moments! The Met promises to give you that one-of-a-kind and unique experience that blends your love for art and romance all in one!

Afterwards, if there’s time left during your session, take a quick stroll into Central Park which is right in the Mets backyard (literally) and take advantage of what NYC has to offer! With 3-4 hours, you and your photographer will have more than enough time to explore the Met and take a few beautiful Central Park photos. That is exactly what Josie & Brandon did with me when they booked my β€˜Tying The Knot’ engagement package and we created gorgeous photos that day!

I hope this information was useful to you when looking to book your engagement session at the Met Museum in NYC. Enjoy the gallery!
